Make sure the sizing of the costume is right. If it’s too small, kids may not be able to wear warm layers underneath. If it’s too big, it’s a tripping hazard. When making or assembling your kids’ costumes, also try to limit accessories, especially sharp items like wands or swords; if they insist, try to find foam versions or other soft options. Choose face paint over masks — masks may limit kids’ vision or breathing. Test face paint on a small area first to ensure your little one won’t have a reaction. Any over-the-counter contact lenses should be avoided; selling these contacts without a prescription is actually illegal because contacts are regulated by the FDA. Contacts not properly fitted by a doctor can lead to infection, vision damage, or even blindness. Attach a badge to the costume with your cellphone number, in case you get separated.
