Healthy Teen Habits

Just Say No

According to AlcoholScreening.org, because teen’s brains and bodies are still developing, alcohol use can lead to learning problems and alcoholism. Alcohol can also damage the body’s organs and increase the risk for many life-threatening diseases. Teens who are around others who are drinking, may also have an increased risk of being seriously injured, involved in car crashes or affected by violence. As a parent, you can have a major impact on a teen’s choices — even when it comes to underage drinking. While you likely recognize the importance of discussing alcohol with your teen, you may not be sure when to initiate this discussion. It’s important to remember that teens are often nervous and confused as they face their first opportunities to try alcohol. Set the stage early by letting your teen know that he or she can talk to you about anything, without judgment.
