Coronary heart disease (CHD) is caused by a buildup of plaque in the arteries that supply blood to the heart. The plaque can reduce or block blood flow to the heart muscle and may cause chest pain and heart attack. CHD can directly result from obesity due to increased blood pressure and cholesterol.
