Stars with Diabetes

Oscar-nominated actress Salma Hayek was diagnosed with gestational diabetes while she was pregnant with her child. Like other forms of diabetes, gestational diabetes is characterized by high blood sugar levels. However, insulin production generally returns to normal once the baby is born. Hayek said she didn’t realize she had it at first because she figured the symptoms were from her pregnancy, not diabetes. “If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't eat so much fruit at the beginning. I didn't know that eating fruit that is high in sugar is not recommended when you have gestational diabetes,” she stated in an interview.
