Acne is a pesky problem during high school, and unfortunately, it may signal serious skin problems down the road. Research has shown that severe acne during one’s teenage years may be a risk factor for developing melanoma and prostate cancer. Additional research found that prostate cancer may also increase melanoma risk by as much as 83 percent. Both acne and prostate cancer are linked to higher male hormone activity, such as elevated testosterone, which affects the skin.
