Surprising Facts About Melanoma

All The Single Men

As with any cancer, early detection is key. And your relationship status could play a role in the detection of skin cancer. One Swedish study found that men living with a partner were more likely to spot their melanoma before it spread than men living alone. That study, from researchers at the Karolinska Institutet, found that the single men had a 40 percent greater risk of being diagnosed with an more advanced form of melanoma. Elderly women living alone also had an increased risk. Melanoma caught and treated early has a 90 percent survival rate, which significantly drops as the cancer progresses.
