Many older men rely on “the little blue pill” also known as Viagra (sildenafil). Although previous animal studies lead researchers to believe that the medication may protect against melanoma, a recent preliminary human study published in JAMA Internal Medicine found that men who took the pill actually had an increased risk of skin cancer. The researchers looked at men who never took the pill, those who used to take it and those currently using it. Compared to those who never took Viagra, the men with a history of taking it had approximately a two times greater risk, and those currently taking Viagra had an 84 percent raised risk.
