According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the average height for a woman in 2012 was 5’3”. Many women at that height may wish they were taller, but they can thank their smaller stature for one thing — a lower risk of melanoma compared to their taller friends. A 2013 study found that women who were about 4 inches taller than this average height had a 13-17 percent increased risk of developing melanoma.
