It may seem like the barriers of your car protect you from the elements, but that’s not necessarily the case when it comes to the sun’s harmful rays. Untinted car windows can let up to 80 percent of harmful UVA rays inside. Those who work in the skies also may be at a greater risk. Pilots and flight crews have been shown to have more than double the risk of developing melanoma than those of us working at ground level. Researchers believe the thinner atmosphere exposes airline workers to increased radiation and UV exposure.
